Our History

The Fife Canary Council was derived by a group of passionate and dedicated fanciers who wanted to further evolve the bird, but remain true to its heritage, whilst at the same time bringing the model into the 21st Century through a complementary standard.

After a recognition that the governing body within the fancy was not serving the interest of the fanciers, or a significant number of clubs, an alternative governing body was formed that wished to lead the fancy in a different, more progressive, transparent and inclusive direction.

As a result, The Fife Canary Council was formed in 2021 and quickly acquired huge support from clubs and individuals across the fancy.

Following its constitution, the organisation was quickly accompanied by a written standard of excellence, a points scale, pictorial model and set of show classifications. The new standard of excellence was subsequently adopted through mandate and a majority vote at the inaugural AGM.

Our Purpose

The Council believes in progressing the modern-day Fife Fancy Canary. Sustaining the breeds popularity as the most desirable type canary by helping our members breed quality birds, therefore improving their studs, in order to be successful on the show bench.

We do this by ‘leading the way forward’ across the fancy, engaging regularly with our membership, evolving the modern-day bird, through the standard of excellence, the pictorial model, and the adoption of modern techniques.

We are a progressive governing body that operates within the fancy and across wider aviculture. We help our members collaborate with leading fanciers, connect with fellow hobbyists in their local area, compete successfully nationally or regionally on the show bench, and help promote their surplus stock.
